Back when they flip phone era, we often see a phone with two screens. The primary screen is in the display, while the secondary is outside. The secondary screen is usually only the primary screen is monochrome and color screen.
Microsoft apparently intends to bring back such a trend. But instead of making a flip phone design, but made a flip cover with a secondary screen. Microsoft Research, or Microsoft's research division is working to make this case that brings always-on feature.
The secondary display also will be using low-power screen, so that instead of the screen as on the phone today. According to the illustration presented by Microsoft, this screen is useful when we want to type because the virtual keyboard will be displayed on the secondary display.
Microsoft Research also is in talks with Lumia division to make this project really became real. Although we do not know for sure when exactly it will happen, and whether it will also be available for mobile phones in addition to Windows 10 or not. But considering Microsoft habits that always share innovations with other platforms (such as Cortana), then we might see the flip cover case is also available for Android phones or iPhone.
